Since Memphis has his adenoids removed and tubes put in his ears he’s been a different kid. He can hear! He’s started saying “uh oh” and “mama” on repeat. When we call his name he turns. And although he gets fussy sometimes (like any toddler) his behavior issues have gone away. I think he was just grumpy all the time because he was uncomfortable. . Sometimes people would say “he’s a toddler, it’s just that age” but I knew it was something more. I knew this wasn’t normal tantrum stuff, I can handle a tantrum. This was nearly constant. Trust your instincts! I’m so glad we figured this out and I’m excited to get him into therapy and watch him continue to grow. Taking a break from teaching has been good for me. I love teaching and I miss it. I definitely plan to start up again but this pause has not only given me time to help my family but also to help myself. . As yoga teachers we often neglect our own practice. I’ve been using this phase of life to really dive in and explore what this body can do. . I thought not living near a studio was a bummer but it’s turned out to be just what I needed. We can learn so much from teachers but sometimes the most growth comes from the teacher within. . PATIENCE. I’m probably not the strongest yogi you follow on Instagram. Not the most bendy. Not the wisest. But I’m stronger, more bendy and wiser than I was when I started this journey. . It’s taken a lot of patience to get this far. If I focused on how far I had left to go, I would get discouraged. And I don’t know where “left to go” would take me anyway. Once I got there I’d probably be disappointed. . Today my intention was to be patient and to focus on each breath as it came, making slow mindful movements. Seems simple enough, but when was the last time you really slowed down and experienced every little movement your body makes? When was the last time you felt each one of your toes individually press into the ground? . Here’s your reminder to slow down and tune in. I like balancing postures and this fun little “teacup” exercise with a block to help but do whatever suits you. Lift your weights slower. In the last two weeks both of my dudes have had surgery. It’s not the “welcome to Memphis” that we hoped for but you know, life. . There have been a lot of ups and downs to this whole move but these surgeries have reminded me of what’s important. These guys are my No. 1 and I’m grateful for their health. Wherever our journey takes us, whatever life throws our way, we got this. . An assignment for you, if you’ve read this far down the caption: Take a moment to be grateful for your people. Then tell them you’re grateful for them. We (we as in society and we as in me) don’t do that nearly enough. . P.S. Memphis was not feeling the camera. 😂
When we moved here I joined a gym with childcare and we have both been absolutely loving it. . I’m not following any program. I don’t have specific goals. My diet filled with Cheezits and coffee, not lean protein and broccoli. Maybe that means I’m doing it “wrong” in many people’s eyes but I am happy. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to move my body in ways that feel good to me each day. And today I’m celebrating the strength I’ve gained. . If you dread the gym, or maybe you feel guilty about not going, check your intentions. Maybe you aren’t like me, but in my experience attaching to a certain outcome (especially physique) can make the whole experience yucky and an invitation for negative self-talk. Do what makes you happy, leave the rest. There are so many health and fitness experts, but you’re the only expert of YOU.
