Ways to enjoy collagen (that aren’t coffee)

Ways to Enjoy Collagen Besides Coffee. Matcha collagen and lemon water review from Yoga Mama Bear.

A while back I went on a quest to try as many collagen powders as possible because I was determined to find one that was better or at least less expensive than the big guy.

I drink collagen in my coffee every morning. I started doing this when I was nursing and struggling to get enough protein and calories but the habit stuck because I like the way collagen improves my skin. Maybe I’m imagining it but it seems like if I’m out of collagen or forget to use it for a few days I break out and my skin tone seems more uneven. Again, this could totally be a placebo affect. But even if it is, I’m still going to drink the collagen.

When Collagen for Her came out with some new flavors, I was excited to give them a try. They also came out with a new formula for their regular collagen and it dissolves instantly. I updated my original review in the original post, linked below.

The two new products are matcha collagen and lemon water collagen. Let’s start with the lemon water because it’s bomb.

The benefits:

This lemon water is more than just collagen. Some of the benefits include:

  • 8g of protein per serving

  • 9g of collagen per serving

  • 100% of your daily Vitamin C per serving

  • Electrolytes

  • All the benefits of collagen — healthy hair, nails, metabolism, digestion … too many to share!

  • Sugar Free, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Soy Free

How to use it: The directions say to mix it with luke warm water and add ice so it dissolves and doesn’t clump up. I did this and it instantly dissolved, I hardly had to stir.

If you like things extra sweet like me, you can add a stevia packet. I did this because I wanted it to taste more like lemonade.  I’d also suggest using less water for a stronger flavor. Again, this is my preference. If you want something more subtle add more water and forget the extra sweetener.

Tips / How I’ve been drinking it: I like this as a refreshing post-workout drink. I’m not one to down protein shakes seeking “gains”, but it tastes good and it’s probably a good idea to have some protein after the gym. I’m no nutritionist but all those gym rats can’t be wrong, right? Plus it also has Vitamin C and electrolytes as an added bonus.

This would also be good in a smoothie, juice, etc. But I enjoy this on its own, with a little water and a stevia packet, as I mentioned. Definitely adding this to my routine.

Next up is the matcha powder.

Collagen for Her Matcha and Lemon Water Review - Yoga Mama Bear

Benefits:

The matcha collagen is a combo of Collagen for Her’s original collagen powder plus matcha powder, so you get the benefits of both the collagen and the matcha.

  • 10g of protein per serving

  • 11g of collagen per serving

  • All the benefits of collagen — healthy hair, nails, metabolism, digestion … too many to share!

  • Naturally eliminates chemicals & heavy metals from the body.

  • Helps lower cholesterol and promotes heart and liver health.

  • Contains L-Thenanine and natural caffeine which provides energy without the jittery side effects.

  • Helps decrease stress and anxiety, and improves concentration.

  • So many other benefits of matcha, as a quick Google search will reveal. Or check out the Collagen for Her website.

How to use it: The instructions just say to mix it with hot water or milk. When I have matcha, I prefer to make it more of a latte by using the frother and my almond or cashew milk.

How I’ve been drinking it: This is an occasional treat for me. I have to be in the mood for matcha, it’s not something I crave all the time. Plus, I’m super lazy and using the frother is just one extra step. Granted it takes like 30 seconds but for some reason it seems like a hassle for me. I guess I’m a brat. If you’re a big matcha fan, this product is for you!
