Friday Faves: Skincare Edition
I started this Friday Faves thing off with yoga pants, and you guys seemed to dig it. I mean, who doesn't like yoga pants?
This week, let's talk about what's underneath the yoga pants. SKIN.
Again, I'm not getting any payment or incentive for these products. I just like them and use them.

Facewash/Soap
Coalface Cleanser by LUSH
You'll notice I mostly use a couple of brands. LUSH is one of them. It's a really great company I feel good about supporting and their product is amazing, all natural and even has a fun photo of the person who MADE the specific product you're buying on the bottle (see photo below). This charcoal soap is great for my combination skin and helps prevent breakouts. There's a LUSH store inside Oak Park Mall in Overland Park if you're in my hood, or you can buy it online.
Face Scrub
Zum Face Exfoliating Facial Scrub by Indigo Wild
I use the Coalface as a daily cleanser, but I mix in this sugar scrub once or twice each week (depending on how dry my skin is) for extra exfoliation. I love how soft it makes my skin feel, and I'm also a big fan of Indigo Wild products (headquartered right here in KC!). Another great company that uses natural ingredients. Warning: They use essential oils in most of their products, which can be a bit strong for some — but I can't get enough of it! You can find it at Whole Foods, Natural Grocers and in KC, they even sell it at HyVee and Price Chopper. Oh, and it's online, of course. P.S. As a copywriter I also dig this company's voice. Read some of the copy on their site. It's pretty hilarious.
Toner
Lavender Witch Hazel by Thayer's
An alcohol-free, natural toner with just a few ingredients. And the lavender makes it smell lovely. I buy this at Natural Grocers, but it's also on Amazon.
Moisturizer (Night)
Frankincense & Myrrh Zum Rub by Indigo Wild
I tried this first as an acne treatment after Kim raved about it. It really works for me. But then I started using it all over my face because I loved it so much. It also lasts a really long time, which is a bonus. I only use this at night because it's pretty thick and shiny.
Moisturizer (Day)
Nourish Oil-Free Antioxidant Facial Moisturizer by Trader Joe's
I've been using this for a couple of years now. I don't LOVE it, but it's very inexpensive and it has sunscreen in it, which is helpful for daily wear for me. (There's a nice review of it on Beautypedia here.) I invest in a nice tinted moisturizer (up next), so I skimp out on regular moisturizer. If you have a fave though, please share! Maybe I'll treat myself sometime. :) This product is available at Trader Joe's, of course.
Tinted Moisturizer
Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 by Laura Mercier
I dig this moisturizer because it is creamy but feels light and adds just a little bit of color. I'm not a foundation gal so this is perfect for me. I buy it at Sephora, but I'm sure you can find it at other stores or online.
Under Eye Coverage
Colour Supplement by LUSH
I won't get into makeup much because that's so not my wheelhouse, but I'll include this because it's wonderful. For extra coverage, like under the eyes, I use LUSH's Colour Supplement. It doesn't feel thick, again, and it doesn't seem to rub off. The ingredients vary depending on your color since the tint comes from natural sources. Also, a little goes a LONG way so this tiny pot lasts several months. Again, you can get it at LUSH stores or online.
Body Wash
Authentic African Black Soap by Alaffia
Disclaimer: I'm not super picky about body wash. My skin isn't sensitive so as long as it smells good and gets me clean, I'm happy. I like this product because it smells nice, uses shea butter and (bonus!) it's often on sale at Whole Foods. I buy the big bottles of it and I think I'm still working on the bottle I bought three months ago. You can find it at Whole Foods, Natural Grocers and online.
Body Oil
Zum Oil by Indigo Wild + Almond Oil by NOW Foods
I prefer oil over lotion after the bath/shower. I feel like it just ... works better. I've read that oil locks in moisture better but really I just use it because I dig it. I used to only use the Zum Oil but I started mixing it with an inexpensive almond oil from Natural Grocers to make it last longer and save some dollars. You can buy both of these things at natural food stores or online. (Zum Oil here and almond oil here.)
Lip Scrub
I used this DIY lip scrub. It's so simple and easy to make with ingredients I usually have on hand.
