Running with the Cows Half Marathon
Husband and I, along with 1,585 other runners, ran the Running with the Cows Half Marathon in Bucyrus, Kansas on Saturday. This was Kristopher's first half and I couldn't be more proud. He's had a rough year and accomplishing this goal was meaningful for him beyond the miles.
This was such a Kansas-y course. There were hills but they weren't steep, and as the name suggests, the course was in the country (cows!).
Training
I'm not a competitive runner. I enjoy walk-jogging and am not really interested in breaking PRs. I know that sounds strange to you runner folk, but running isn't really a "fitness" activity for me. It used to be, but now it's more therapeutic and an excuse to go out and play in momma nature.
Results
Like I said, I'm not interested in breaking PRs. But I did break one. This was my slowest half yet. :) I finished in 2:13 (about a 10-minute mile pace). I'll take it! The clock below says 2:17 because we had a late start but the fancy chip on my shoe recorded my "official" time. I started struggling at mile 8 but I distracted myself by the beautiful countryside and I'm happy I made it.
The Real Results
The best result from this race was the experience of training with my husband. Having a shared goal and working through the highs and lows of training together has been wonderful for our marriage. We've never done anything like this together before, and it won't be the last time we do.
It's not about crossing the finish line. It's about the journey there. :)
Can't wait to see where our next adventure takes us!
